The issue I've had is where the screen goes dark in call and I have to hit the side button to bring the screen back up just so I can end the call, so I'd be interested in seeing if they fix that with an update.
While you are in a call the screen is supposed to lock and go dark when you hold the phone to your face, it has sensors to determine that. When you move the phone away, it should come back on and you should see a button to "end call".
rjneves is correct. It's a feature not a flaw. The proximity sensor activates to save battery and you normally wouldn't be looking at the screen, (even if it IS noticeable), while holding the phone to your ear. But as you take the phone away from your ear and the call ends the screen should come right back.
Sometimes it comes back when I'm ready to end the call, but most of the time it doesn't.
Correct, it supposed to go dark and lock while you have a phone to your ear. Sensor should sense the position of the phone. In my case it didn;t come back up when hoding in front of me while on the call. I had to replace my phone with new one. I think AT&T and Samsung know about the problem and had no objections but just replaced the phone with new one. It is ok for now. I also think that certain applications may cause the issue but I can't tell you exactly what app I installed to trigger the issue. I know that it was working fine when I first got my phone. All applications were installed from the windows phone store to I think they need to do a better job testing them before approving for install.
If you install the Accelerometer app from the Windows Phone Marketplace it will allow you to recalibrate the sensor. Works like a charm.
Enter the "Diagnositcs" app. Enter code *#0*# to enter LCD diagnostics.
Then tap the Proximity button. If the square stays blue no matter what you do, you'll need to re-set the threshhold. BLUE means face is close (screen blank) -- RED means face is away (screen wakes up). For example, if you hold your phone away from you, and then square stays blue, and the number is 10. Place your hand close to the top earpiece, and the number should go up. Hit the set button at a number slightly higher than the thrhhold... say 20.
The phone will reboot. Now your proximity sensor should do its job a little better.
