"Approved" Cards Not Necessarily Safe For Samsung Focus

I guess when Samsung said “Approved”, they did not mean “safe to use.” Apparently people that bought the 32GB Sandisk SD card to use with their Samsung Focus got a little surprise when their memory card crashed their devices. Samsung has since noticed this and called for a removal of the memory card from their stores. This does bring up a little concern however because if Samsung cannot tell what is safe for their phones, then are memory cards really as bad as Microsoft put it?

This is the response I got today from SanDisk support when I asked about cards for the Focus:

"We would like to inform you that Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 only works with Windows 7 certified micro SD/SDHC memory card. As of now SanDisk do not manufacture any Windows 7 certified micro SD/SDHC card. We request you to contact Samsung to check which all cards are compatible with your phone."

I guess the key word here is 'certified'...looks like I am still on hold until this gets figured out.

Which the sad thing is it appears even some "certified" cards are having problems.

Supposedly some people are having success with the SanDisk 8GB Class 2 that you can pick up from Costco for $25. I've read it in a couple different forums. I too have been waiting to know "for sure" that one of these (or ANY of the micro SD cards would work, for that matter) before picking up a Focus to replace my iPhone3. I was thinking maybe since there is a coupon for $7 off the Costco one for the 3 days after Thanksgiving that I'd go for it; maybe I'll just buy the memory and hold off on the phone.

I like that, its like saying "if you want to fly to the moon in your car you must own a flying car, currently no flying cars exist." =P

Has anyone try Cards above class 4 sd/sdhc card? I am sure the class of the cards matter. Not all hardward accept standard sd cards with lower speed. Most recent hardware will accept Sd/sdhc cards of higher speed of 4 to 10. so 32 gb card with a lower speed of 2 or 4 classes may not be compactible with some hardward that are optimized for HD pictures and video.
