Verizon customers itching to get their hands on a Windows Phone handset may just yet get a chance. Today at the end of the carrier’s financial results call, Big Red's CFO Fran Shammo said that they believe "a third ecosystem is particularly important in the smartphone business, beyond merely Android and iPhone." Nothing more was said on the subject, but it's easy to read into what he is alluding to; a new Windows Phone could very well find it's way into Verizon's line-up. Verizon's aging HTC Trophy, which was released in May of 2011, is in much need of a follow up, so it seems only natural that they would follow it up with a nice piece of hardware powered by Apollo. Shammo's comments and early rumor of a Verizon branded Windows Phone 8 handset sure look promising to us.
