It seems Nokia is finally getting ready to update its high end phone line-up.
Later this month they should announce Lumia 928 for Verizon. As the number suggests, it will be a minor update to its Lumia 920 flagship, and will come 4.5” OLED display, 1.5Ghz CPU, 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and support for simultaneous voice/LTE.
Lumia 928 Pureview camera should be similar to 920, but as you can see in the picture, it should also have the Xenon flash for even better performance in low light conditions. 928 will use thinner polycarbonate, so this should help with the biggest complaint users had about 920 – its weight.
Sadly, the previous rumors about aluminum frames for Nokia’s first Verizon flagship seem to be in error. Those frames are coming, but later.
Not much later, if another set of rumors is to be believed. According to them, Nokia has a big launch event planned for May 15th in London, for the true successor to Lumia 920.
The new Windows Phone smartphone is codenamed Catwalk and will come in a thin, light aluminum body with the following specs:

Here's a story we missed from the end of last month. It's still a pretty interesting and relevant piece of news so we thought it worth sharing. Thanks to BileshaWelton for the news tip!
It’s no secret that Viber for Windows Phone 8 is one of the most highly anticipated pieces of software that is not yet available to the masses, but we won’t have too much longer to wait; Viber CEO Talmon Marco has confirmed to TruTower that the application has been submitted to the Windows Phone Store and is now awaiting publication, a process that Microsoft estimates (without certification, which may not be necessary since Viber messaging is already available in the store) to take 24 hours.
Many users have been waiting a long time for the application, and it’s great to see it finally completed and in the process of being unleashed.
We have been able to confirm via an earlier article post that stickers will not be among the features available in the first release of the new app, but Viber has revealed that group calling will indeed be available from day one.
Windows Phone might be a promising platform with great looks and plenty of fluidity, but sadly with no official sales figures it’s hard to know whether it’s catching up or not. Now, Microsoft’s corporate communications VP Frank Shaw unveiled parts of the mystery but not the whole mystery.
“Windows Phone has reached 10 percent market share in a number of countries, and according to IDC’s latest report, has shipped more than Blackberry in 26 markets and more than iPhone in seven.”
The 10% market share - in case you were wondering - was one of the milestones Microsoft has long been waiting to achieve to signify a breakthrough in its attempts to build the third ecosystem. Sadly, Shaw leaves it up to the imagination to know what exact countries were those 10% in - are they in large developed markets, or in tinier emerging markets. Whatever the case, it’s hard to draw any conclusions out of that. We can only say that Microsoft is slowly but surely raising its market presence.
In an interview on Finnish television, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, in response to a question about the Nokia Lumia 928, said that, "there is so much good work ahead. I mean some of the beautiful phones still ahead we’re so excited about." Elop pointed out how Nokia smartphones are well known for their beautiful designs and the photography produced by the camera on Nokia phones. The executive said that future models will exaggerate both of those features and take them to higher and higher levels.
In what is good news for the Finnish handset manufacturer, Elop said Nokia will sell more phones on a sequential basis in the first quarter compared to the fourth quarter of last year. "Now we’re starting with a brand new set of products, we’re starting with low numbers but I like that Q4 was more than Q3 and I want to keep growing that and taking that to a higher and higher amount," said the CEO.
Elop also vocalized his goal for Nokia to beat Apple and Samsung by innovating. The innovation on the Nokia Lumia 920 includes the amazing low-light picture taking capabilities on the phone along with the great viewing angles that allow you to view the screen even under bright sunlight. He also pointed out how Nokia Lumia 920 users can control the screen even while wearing gloves.
At October's Windows Phone 8 launch event, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore stood on stage and eagerly announced a laundry list of popular apps that were confirmed to be coming to the platform in the coming months. To the delight of many, Pandora was on the list -- and to top it all off, the music streaming service would come ad-free for the first year. The question then shifted to when it would actually make it to the Windows Phone Store, and we finally have an answer: today.
The free app will take advantage of a Live Tile in all three possible sizes, the two largest showing which song is currently playing, along with its album cover art. Pandora's arrival also marks another milestone: not only will it be available on Kids Corner, it's also the first app capable of automatically filtering out explicit content when the feature is activated. The service will only be available for Windows Phone 8 devices, but anyone accessing Pandora through alternate apps on Windows Phone 7.x can continue to do so.
HTC won some pretty impressive awards recently for their Windows Phone 8 devices. The Windows Phone 8X and the Windows Phone 8S both won HTC a "red dot award" for product design. Here's the full press release,
